History

Motorcar Colors traces our roots back over 30 years to Pete’s Auto Parts formed in the early 70s by Peter Bertotti. Pete formed and fostered a thriving auto parts store and entered into the paint market in the late 70s. George Schulmann purchased Pete’s in 1989 and has transformed the company into the nationally recognized PBE distributor Motorcar Colors. When taking over MCC, we were confronted with a company that was a full fledged auto parts store and PBE supplier with Dupont PPG and BASF product lines yet considered a jack-of-all trades and master of none.  We immediately turned our attention to consolidating inventory, products and the focus of the company. Through this process our parts division was consolidated with one of our other businesses, Auto Parts Connection. Next, we focused on the strongest product lines and eventually became one of the first BASF ColorSource distributors. BASF has always had the strongest products in the market, products which support our philosophy of doing business - giving our customers the best products and service at the best price.
